How could Dolores Haze be someone's fashion icon? She's a character from a book. A book that doesn't center on fashion or latest trends. In fact, I can barely remember anything about her choice of clothing in Lolita. Unless, of course, the person who said about Haze being her fashion icon is referring to the character in the movie version instead. But I still think that is weird because whatever the movie Haze is wearing is an inaccurate manifestation of the wardrobe director's imagination, given the lack of such details mentioned in the book. Besides, Dolores Haze is a 12 year-old girl, so go figure.

There is only one conclusion to this: *drum rolls* [ fill in the blank with your own thoughts on it ]

She has to be careful of potential Humbert Humberts out there.

Anyway, I'm going to San Fransisco at 6 AM tomorrow ( but knowing my friends, we'll end up going at 7 or 8 ). My parents want me to tank the plans to go up north because according to the news they watched, there is a possible snowstorm happening there. Uhhhhhh.....let me google when was the last time it snowed in SF. I'm not sure if it ever snowed there but my guess would be a single digit and it's not going to start snowing tomorrow.

Yummy egg tarts, here I come.

I went snowboarding today. The traffic was as bad as expected but the snow -ohmygod- it was like a mini storm every 15min or so. I had lots of fun though.

I just read the articles and comments posted on TechCrunch about Posterous. Some people are downright rude and obnoxious. There are also comments saying that Posterous is just like Tumblr but without a community. That is simply isn't true. If they feel like there is a lack of similar-type bloggers to themselves on Posterous, it is because Posterous is relatively young in the game and still growing. There is a wonderful community here and there is real blogging here too. In fact, there are various, awesome communities here and it is less likely to find users spamming each other with reblogs because they use the excuse that there isn't a commenting system integrated into their Tumblrs. I use both Posterous and Tumblr, and I love both for different reasons but to be honest, I post random nothings on Tumblr rather than blogging because of the dashboard UI. It really is geared towards micro-blogging so seeing overly long posts on my dashboard is irritating sometimes. Or maybe it's just the Tumblr community I'm in. haha. How ironic. One of the commenters who opined as mentioned above is a follower on my Tumblr. I feel more like blogging on Posterous, and blogging thoughtfully at that. It's probably because I type my posts on gmail and it feels as if I'm emailing someone so I tend to avoid posting anything that is wtf in nature. The image gallery feature is brilliant too because I love taking screencaps of movies I watch online. If someone posts twenty-something screencaps as twenty++ separate image posts on Tumblr, I think I'm going to quit internet for a couple of days.

Anyway, bookmarklet is on the list of features that will probably be added to Posterous in the near future:)
That is something to look forward to even though I can already imagine the influx of scrapbook-like posts invading my Posterous dashboard too. or maybe not.

And this is how I know she's treading carefully, as if racked by an inexplicable sense of guilt. There really isn't a need for that, actually, but I enjoy playing this game because each new development gives me yet another confirmation that I made the right choice by keeping myself away from both of them. She doesn't seem to get it though, which explains the incoming emails and other attempts to maintain a close friendship. Of course she fails more miserably each time. I don't see why she should be so surprised by this, considering it's only a simple method to deflect her efforts to find out what I'm doing with my life and so on. Just mention something that she wouldn't want you to know and voilà, you have an uneasy and worrisome girl at hand who will stop bothering you for a while, hopefully. I asked a lot of questions about other mutual friends and divulge as little as possible about what I do and who I hang out with because I'm through with being taken advantage of by these people who think that seemingly more fortunate people must always do their utmost to help less privileged ingrates. Less fortunate friends are always welcomed but I close my doors to ingrates. Seeing this short post on her blog made me really happy and when I told a trusted friend last night about the whole affair, he remarked, "You're pretty cheeky and mean, but that was justified." And that was all I needed to hear.

"Snail! Scary knot of desire!

Hungry snarl! Small son.
Why do I have to love you?
How have you won?"

- last stanza from "The Victory" by Anne Stevenson.

Don't get me wrong. I love babies and little children but this poem that describes the poet's baby as an antagonist is too interesting to pass. No "little angels" or "bundles of joy" for her. The infant is like a knife that cut through her mentally and physically.

Persepolis was pretty intense in a silent way, if that makes sense at all.

I've been a little under the weather lately and my parents are completely alarmed by this. They call every morning and my dad told me he couldn't sleep for the past few nights out of worry. I, on the other hand, just think this is trivial and that I'll recover soon with enough rest and healthy foods. My nonchalance is such a stark contrast to their anxiety and it makes me wonder if this is something that I'd only understand when I become a parent one day. Will I be fretting over a common cold my child has or will I be as calm as I am now? I really don't know and either way is pretty troubling, in my opinion.

Nanking

Some of the accounts were so heartbreaking, I couldn't help crying. One could only imagine how those victims feel when they recalled what happened to their family and fellow countrymen. Children looking at an alleyway full of dead bodies and desperately trying to shake their parents back to life while their infant siblings wailed from bayonet wounds. Heartless soldiers sparing no one and forcing their faulty justice on innocents. Even after decades have passed, minute details of the cruelty stayed in their minds. The rape of Nanking. I can understand why the older Chinese feel the way they do towards Japanese even to this day.
